ZENITH Vintage Antique CONSOLE VACUUM TUBE RADIO 6-S-254 Shortwave AM Ham SWL

A vintage Zenith Model 6-S-254 Console Tube Radio.

We are pleased to present this vintage Zenith Console Radio for your consideration. It is the 6-Tube model 6-S-254 with Tear-drop style Dial which dates to around 1938. It has three (3) receiving bands which cover the AM Broadcast Band, plus Shortwave up to about 18 MHz. It has a Waterfall style cabinet with an Art Deco look.

The Radio measures 40 inches high, 24-1/2 inches wide, and is 14 inches deep. The model number is stamped at the top of the back edge of the cabinet. The serial number, R355091, is embossed on a metal plate at the bottom edge of the back of the chassis.

The Radio has not been tested and is offered in as-is condition. The line cord shows wear and should be carefully inspected for damage before use. The internal speaker has a torn paper cone and will need to be repaired. Two (2) knobs on the front are missing. The frequency dial is not working - the tuning knob turns, but the variable tuning capacitor does not change position, nor does the dial indicator move. All tubes are present. The chassis has a layer of dust on the top, but the back is clean and rust free.

Physically, the cabinet is structurally sound but shows moderate to heavy wear to its veneer, with the greatest wear on the top. All major wood pieces seem to be present and appear undamaged. The fabric covering the speaker opening is present but loose. Please review our pictures carefully to understand the current condition of the cabinet (click on thumbnails to right of picture just above description - there are 18 pictures provided). With a decent looking and reasonably clean chassis, plus a structurally sound cabinet, we rate the overall condition of the Console Radio as fair to good.

Considered to be one of the more collectible Zenith Console Radio models, this Radio would be a good candidate for restoration. It would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
