Antique General Television Radio Model 9B6

GENERAL TELEVISION AND RADIO CORP. MODEL 9B6 RADIO?

A hard model to find in any condition.  General Television and Radio Corp of Chicago, Illinois made this marvelous AM tabletop radio, known as Model 9B6.  Operates on both AC and DC, 105 – 120 volts.  The cabinet is made of rich Bakelite, with beautifully contrasting ivory-covered top handle, grill, knobs, and face frame.  The gold face features a textural deco pattern, with a ivory plastic station indicator, beneath which "General Television" appears.  Measuring 8-5/8" wide, 5-1/2" deep, and 7" tall (including the handle), the back cover is well marked on the reverse side.  An interior metal plate, which is visible from the outside, indicates that it was "licensed under patents of Radio Corporation of America and associated companies and with Hazeltine Corporation" - Serial No A  182525.  The radio works quite well, and uses a self-contained loop antenna.  The face still lights, and we believe the cord (although worn in several places) and old round plug to be original.  Similar models have sold for $250 to $400. It is clean but has one crack to the top left of the speaker grill.
