RARE ANTIQUE / VINTAGE GENERAL ELECTRIC GE BATTERY OPERATED TUBE RADIO - GB-440

WE SELL WITH PRIDE SO YOU MAY BUY WITH CONFIDENCE

Here is a NICE piece of history you just don't see every day!

I have looked all over the internet & have not seen another radio like this for sale! Mfg'd by General Electric, this radio (model GB-44, serial G 8473) ran on batteies, unlike most antique/vintage radios that ran on electric! It is in GREAT condition, unfortunately I have no way of testing it, however by looking at its condition, it probably still works! In fact the only flaw that I really found on it was that the metal hardware that holds the leather strap on has discolored, maybe it will clean up fine? Measures 13 1/2"W x 8"D x 8 1/4"H. It looks all original, including the leather handle!

While researching this radio I did find someone who posted their same model online for people to look at & this is the information they provided:
Country: United States of America (USA)
Manufacturer/Brand: General Electric Co. (GE); Bridgeport (CT)
Brand: Musaphonic
Year: 1939 ?
Type: Radio - or past WW2 tuner
Valves / Tubes 4: 1-A7G, 1-H5G, 1-N5G, 1-C5G
Wave bands Broadcast only (MW).
Power type & voltage: Dry Batteries / 1.5 & 90 Volt
Loudspeaker Permanent Magnet Dynamic (PDyn) Loudspeaker (moving coil) / Ø 12 cm = 4.7 inch
Material: Leather / canvas / plastic - over other material
Shape: Portable, e.g. Portable Radio (with or without mains > 8 inch).

ARVIN portable tube battery antique retro AM old radio

Up for auction is this late 40's Arvin AM 5 tube radio. This radio is clean but it has some surface rust and scuffs in the steel and aluminum case. The volume/tuning knobs operate smoothly. The carrying handle is in good condition and strong but there is a split in the leather at the center. This radio plays great with plenty of volume and strong reception. The tone is great with smooth tube type bass. The radio will not turn off, the volume knob clicks and the power indicator scale changes to indicate off but it will not turn off, it must be unplugged to turn it off. This radio is a three way type, it will operate off of both AC, DC mains or batteries. This radio requires the old type 90 volt battery and the batteries are not included. This is a big portable radio, it mesaures approximately 10" tall, 12" wide and 5" front to back. It weighs a around 10 pounds. The model number is 250-P. This radio could be repainted to look like new or just enjoyed as it is. If you have any questions, feel free to send email. Thanks for looking!!
